Puccinia mccleanii is a species of rust fungus that acts as a pathogenic agent specifically affecting plants of the genus Asphodeline. As a specialized pathogen, it primarily targets the foliage and stems of these perennial plants, leading to a condition commonly referred to as asphodeline rust, which can be devastating for both wild populations and ornamental garden collections.

The primary symptom of this infection is the development of pustules on the leaves, which serve as the reproductive structures of the fungus. Initially, small, pale chlorotic spots appear, which soon erupt through the epidermis to reveal rusty-orange or reddish-brown spore masses.
