The fungus Puccinia pammelii is an obligate parasite belonging to the order Pucciniales, responsible for causing rust disease in specific host plants. As a specialized pathogen, it relies entirely on the tissues of living plants to complete its complex biological life cycle, which often involves multiple spore stages throughout the growing season.

This pathogen primarily targets species within the Euphorbia genus. By infecting the leaves and stems, the fungus establishes a network of hyphae that diverts essential nutrients away from the plant. This parasitic relationship significantly weakens the host, leading to physiological stress and potential yield loss if the infection reaches high intensity levels.

The most visible symptoms of Puccinia pammelii infection are the characteristic rust-colored or orange pustules on the plant surface. These structures house millions of spores, which are released to spread the infection to neighboring plants.
