Description

The causative agent of this disease is the fungus Puccinia pseudostriiformis, a specialized basidiomycete pathogen. As an obligate parasite, it relies entirely on its host plants, predominantly wheat, to complete its life cycle. The pathogen is recognized globally as one of the most destructive diseases affecting cool-season cereal production.

The primary host range includes wheat, but the fungus also thrives on various wild grasses which serve as an important inoculum source.
