Pyrenochaetopsis is a genus of soil-borne fungi known for causing various root rots and crown lesions in a wide range of plants. These fungi were previously taxonomically linked to the genus Pyrenochaeta but are now recognized as distinct entities. As opportunistic pathogens, they primarily target the vascular system of the host, leading to reduced growth and significant yield losses in commercial agriculture.

The host range of this pathogen is extensive, predominantly affecting vegetable crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and melons. In greenhouse environments, where monoculture is frequent and environmental conditions are strictly controlled, Pyrenochaetopsis can become a persistent and challenging problem if soil health is not meticulously maintained.
