The pathogen Pyrenochaetopsis leptospora is a fungal species often associated with root and leaf decay in various cereal crops. The primary hosts for this fungus include wheat, barley, and other small-grain cereals. While often considered a secondary pathogen, Pyrenochaetopsis leptospora can cause significant damage in intensive farming systems, particularly where monocropping is practiced and soil health is not effectively managed.
