As a soil-borne fungus, it significantly impacts the vitality and appearance of turfgrass, pastures, and natural meadow communities by disrupting the plant's vascular system and nutrient uptake capabilities.
The disease primarily targets the root system and the lower portions of the stems. By colonizing these areas, the fungus prevents the plant from maintaining its physiological functions, leading to reduced vigor and eventual decline of the stand. While it shows a preference for specific grass hosts, it remains a persistent concern in high-maintenance environments where environmental conditions are frequently manipulated.
