Radulomyces is a genus of fungi within the order Hymenochaetales, primarily known for causing wood decay in both forest and orchard environments. These fungi are classified as saprotrophs but can exhibit pathogenic behavior on fruit trees, where they lead to the development of white rot in the woody tissues of trunks and branches.

The primary hosts for this fungus include various deciduous trees, with apple, pear, and plum species being particularly susceptible. The fungus typically gains entry into the host tree through open wounds, such as pruning cuts, cracks caused by frost, or other mechanical damages that expose the internal wood to environmental pathogens.

Identification of the disease involves observing the development of flattened, crust-like fruiting bodies on the tree's surface. Internally, the fungus decomposes the lignin and cellulose, resulting in a soft, fibrous, and bleached appearance of the wood. As the decay progresses, the structural integrity of the branch or trunk is significantly compromised, leading to limb breakage.

Environmental conditions that favor the proliferation of Radulomyces include high humidity levels and moderate temperatures. The spores are typically wind-dispersed, allowing them to travel considerable distances and land on susceptible surfaces. Once the fungus establishes itself, it creates a mycelial network that continues to spread through the vascular system and heartwood of the host.
