Ramularia acris is a fungal pathogen responsible for the disease known as Ramularia leaf spot, specifically targeting various species of the Ranunculus genus. This disease is an important factor in ornamental gardening and botanical studies, as it affects the foliage and overall health of buttercups. The fungus belongs to the Deuteromycetes group, reproducing primarily through asexual conidia.
The primary symptoms of this condition are the appearance of small, irregular spots on the leaves. Initially, these spots are often pale green or yellowish, gradually turning necrotic, brown, or grayish-brown as the tissue dies. In humid environments, a white to grayish powdery coating of fungal spores can be observed, typically on the underside of the leaves, indicating the active stage of fungal development.
The development and spread of Ramularia acris are heavily dependent on environmental conditions. High humidity, frequent rainfall, and moderate temperatures (typically between 18°C and 22°C) create an ideal microclimate for spore germination and infection. The fungus persists throughout the winter as mycelium or sclerotia within fallen leaf litter or infected plant debris, ensuring a new cycle of infection in the following spring.

This physiological stress weakens the plant significantly, reducing its vigor, aesthetic appeal, and potential for future flowering.
