The fungus Ramularia calcea is a well-known pathogen that specifically targets various herbaceous plants, particularly those within the Asteraceae family. As a deuteromycete, it functions by infecting the leaf tissue, leading to the formation of specialized reproductive structures that allow the fungus to persist and spread efficiently throughout the growing season.
Symptoms of the infection typically appear as small, chlorotic or whitish spots scattered across the leaves. As the disease progresses, these spots expand, often becoming angular due to leaf venation.
