Ravenelia rust, caused by the fungal pathogen Ravenelia hobsonii, is a notable disease affecting various legume species, particularly within the acacia family. This fungus is a member of the Pucciniales order, known for forming complex life cycles. It is widely recognized in agricultural and botanical studies for its specialized host-parasite relationship, where it draws nutrients directly from the living plant tissue.

The primary hosts of this pathogen are woody legumes, which are often found in tropical and subtropical regions. The fungus impacts the host by colonizing leaf tissues, which significantly impairs the plant's ability to perform photosynthesis. This physiological disruption leads to reduced growth rates, decreased biomass production, and, in severe cases, the death of individual branches or entire specimens.

Visual identification of the disease is based on the appearance of chlorotic spots on the upper leaf surface, which correspond to the development of fungal fruiting bodies on the undersides.
