Readeriella mirabilis is a significant fungal pathogen known for causing leaf spot diseases in various Eucalyptus species. As a member of the ascomycetes, this fungus primarily targets the foliage, leading to necrosis, defoliation, and reduced vigor in trees, which negatively impacts timber production and nursery stock health.

The host range of Readeriella mirabilis is largely confined to the genus Eucalyptus. The pathogen is particularly problematic in monocultural plantations where host density is high, facilitating the rapid transfer of spores between trees. Both juvenile and mature trees can be susceptible, depending on the environmental conditions and the specific strain of the pathogen.

Symptoms initially manifest as chlorotic lesions on the leaf surface, which gradually turn into necrotic spots. A key diagnostic feature is the emergence of black pycnidia, which are the fungal fruiting bodies, appearing within the dead tissue of the leaf. Silvicultural practices are paramount, including selecting resistant cultivars and maintaining appropriate planting distances to promote canopy airflow and reduce humidity. In nursery settings, preventative fungicide applications and strict sanitation protocols—such as removing and destroying infected leaf litter—are essential to suppress the inoculum source and prevent widespread disease outbreaks.
