Rhabdonema disease is a fungal disorder caused by pathogenic microorganisms of the genus Rhabdonema. The pathogen belongs to the group of deuteromycetes and primarily attacks the above-ground parts of plants, disrupting their essential physiological functions. The disease is characterized by rapid spread under conditions of high humidity and moderate temperatures.

A wide range of agricultural and ornamental crops are susceptible, including cereals, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The pathogen can infect leaves, stems, and reproductive organs, leading to significant yield losses and reduced marketability of the produce. The disease poses a particular threat to weakened crops grown under poor agrotechnical management.

Symptoms of the infection manifest as distinct chlorotic and necrotic spots that gradually increase in size. On the surface of the affected tissues, the fungal sporulation often becomes visible, appearing as tiny dark spots or a fine layer of dust. Over time, the tissues die off, leaves drop prematurely, and stems may become deformed or lose their structural integrity.

The development of the disease is triggered by frequent precipitation, fog, and high air humidity, which create optimal conditions for spore germination. Infection typically occurs through stomata or mechanical injuries to the epidermis. Pests that damage plant tissue integrity often act as vectors for the spores, accelerating the spread of the infection throughout fields or greenhouses.

Protection measures require an integrated management approach: utilizing resistant cultivars, maintaining proper crop rotation, and thoroughly removing plant debris where the fungus overwinters. Systemic and contact fungicides are recommended for control. Prevention strategies also focus on maintaining optimal humidity levels and timely pest management to minimize the entry points for the pathogen.
