These fungi typically produce small, disk-like apothecia on the host tissue, functioning as the reproductive structures that facilitate the spread of the disease within a plantation or forest environment.
The host range of Rhizodiscina includes a variety of trees and shrubs, particularly those that are already under stress from environmental factors or mechanical injury. By targeting the bark, the fungus interferes with the plant's natural protective barriers, creating a gateway for secondary infections and leading to localized tissue death or necrosis.
