Rhizoglomus fasciculatum, formerly known as Glomus fasciculatum, is not a plant pathogen but a beneficial arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF). It forms a symbiotic association with plant roots, functioning as an extension of the root system rather than a source of disease. This fungus is vital for natural soil fertility and plant growth.

The fungus colonizes the root cortex and forms specialized structures called arbuscules. Through these structures, the plant trades photosynthetic sugars for nutrients that the fungus extracts from the surrounding soil. Phosphorus, in particular, is delivered efficiently to the plant, which would otherwise be inaccessible due to its limited mobility in the soil.

It is widely associated with a diverse range of agricultural crops, including vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers, field crops like maize and wheat, and various fruit trees.
