Symptoms of the disease are typically observed as roughened, cracked, or sunken areas on the bark of trunks and branches. As the tree attempts to wall off the infection, it produces abnormal callus tissue, resulting in distinctive rough patches or swellings. Inside the infected areas, the underlying bark may appear necrotic, and the cambium can be severely disrupted, hindering nutrient transport.
