In terms of biology, this fungus is a mycorrhizal partner. It develops a symbiotic relationship with the root systems of various tree species, particularly broad-leaved trees. Instead of being a disease, it aids the host trees by extending the reach of their root systems, thereby improving water and mineral nutrient absorption.
Symptoms of the presence of Russula laurocerasi include the development of fleshy, ocher-colored fruit bodies that emerge from the forest floor. These mushrooms are recognized by their distinct, pungent odor of bitter almonds or cherry laurel, which helps mycologists distinguish them from other Russula species in the field.

The fungus requires high humidity and a stable layer of humus to support its underground mycelial network, which is essential for its survival.

In fact, it plays an important ecological role in decomposing organic material and maintaining the health of forest ecosystems.
