Crowned Sarcosphaera (Sarcosphaera crassa) is a unique fungal species that acts as a soil-inhabiting organism. The causal agent is the subterranean mycelium which develops into a characteristic fleshy, cup-shaped fruiting body. The disease type is primarily a form of root restriction or decay, where the fungus competes for resources and can interfere with the nutrient uptake capacity of the host plant's root system during its active growth phase.
