Scolecobasidium blight is a fungal plant disease caused by the pathogen Scolecobasidium constrictum. This fungus is a dematiaceous mold recognized for its dark-pigmented mycelium. It functions primarily as a facultative parasite, surviving in the soil or on decaying organic matter, and becoming pathogenic to host plants under specific environmental stress conditions.

The fungus has a broad host range, affecting various vegetable crops, ornamentals, and tree seedlings. It is particularly problematic in greenhouses and controlled environments where moisture levels are consistently high. The pathogen specifically targets the roots and stem bases, making early detection difficult before the plant starts to show signs of severe decline.
