Scopuloides is a genus of basidiomycetous fungi known for its role as a wood-decaying pathogen in various plant species. As a plant disease, it acts as a primary decomposer that attacks the structural integrity of trees and shrubs, breaking down lignin and cellulose within the host tissue. This fungus can transition from a saprotrophic existence to a parasitic stage, causing significant health declines in woody plants.

The host range of Scopuloides typically includes a variety of hardwood and softwood species found in forests, orchards, and decorative landscapes. The fungus enters the plant through wounds, such as pruning cuts, broken branches, or frost cracks in the bark. Once internal colonization begins, the fungus spreads through the vascular system, effectively disrupting the transport of nutrients and water.

The presence of decaying wood in the immediate vicinity significantly increases the risk of infection, especially when the host plant is stressed by environmental factors or injury.

To manage and prevent the spread, it is essential to focus on hygiene practices. This includes the removal and destruction of infected tissues, maintaining tree vigor through proper fertilization, and protecting open wounds with specialized sealants to prevent fungal entry.
