Seticyphella is a genus of basidiomycete fungi recognized in agricultural pathology as an agent causing fungal diseases in woody plants. These fungi typically act as wood-decay pathogens, colonizing the bark and internal tissues of trees and shrubs, which often leads to the compromise of the plant's vascular integrity.

The disease is caused by the fungal mycelium penetrating the bark layers, often entering through wounds or frost cracks. Once established, the fungus begins to degrade lignin and cellulose within the wood, which can lead to significant structural weakening of the branches and stems of the host plant.

Symptoms of the infection primarily include the presence of small, cup-shaped, often hairy fruiting bodies on the surface of the bark. These structures, while minute, indicate an active fungal colonization. As the infection progresses, the surrounding bark may show signs of discoloration, peeling, or cracking, and the affected branch often begins to wilt or die off entirely.
