This pathogen is a significant concern for blueberry growers, as it leads to premature defoliation and weakened plant vigor, potentially causing major yield losses.

The primary hosts of this pathogen are highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum). The fungus thrives in climates characterized by frequent rainfall and high humidity, which provide the necessary environmental conditions for spore dispersal and colonization of healthy leaf tissue.

Early symptoms of the disease appear as small, circular, reddish-brown or purple spots on the foliage.
