The host range of this fungus is quite broad, including many deciduous trees such as apple, birch, oak, and beech. It typically invades trees that are already weakened by environmental stress, mechanical injuries, or other biological pathogens, focusing on the dead and dying woody tissues of the plant.
The primary symptom of infection is the presence of small, thin, resupinate (crust-like) fruit bodies on the surface of branches or bark.
