Stemphylium leaf spot, caused by the fungus Stemphylium beticola, is a notable foliar disease affecting various types of beet crops. While it may not always cause total yield loss, it significantly impacts the vitality of the plant and reduces the efficiency of the photosynthetic process.

The host range of Stemphylium beticola primarily includes sugar beet, table beet, and mangel-wurzel. The pathogen tends to attack mature foliage, spreading from the lower leaves upwards. Symptoms are manifested as circular to irregular-shaped spots on the leaf blades. These lesions are typically brown or greyish with visible concentric zoning.
