It belongs to the group of pycnidial fungi, which complete their reproductive cycle by forming small, dark-colored structures known as pycnidia on the surface of the infected plant tissue.

This pathogen primarily targets garden violets and pansies, causing significant distress to both professional nursery stocks and home garden collections. The infection typically affects leaves, stems, and sometimes the crown of the plant, often leading to rapid tissue death if environmental conditions remain favorable for the pathogen.
