The primary hosts of this pathogen include various broad-leaved trees, particularly species within the Fagaceae family, such as oaks and beeches. While it is primarily found in forest ecosystems on dead or fallen wood, it can also infect living trees that have been compromised by environmental stress, previous wounding, or insect activity, posing a threat to tree longevity in managed landscapes.
