These growths represent the plant's reaction to the parasitic activity within its tissues.
The host range for this disease includes commercially important crops such as cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, and melons. The pathogen invades the epidermis of young plant tissue, inducing abnormal cell multiplication. The resulting galls can vary in size and color, often starting as small, pale swellings and hardening into distinct, darker, tumor-like structures that disrupt normal plant development.
