Talaromyces infection is a fungal disease caused by various species of the Talaromyces genus. As close relatives of the Penicillium fungi, these organisms act as opportunistic pathogens that thrive on decaying organic matter and weakened living tissues. In agricultural settings, they are primary concerns for both pre-harvest plant health and the preservation of harvested agricultural commodities.

This pathogen impacts a broad array of crops, including fruits, vegetables, grains, and various horticultural products. The infection is particularly devastating in post-harvest environments where moisture and storage temperatures are not strictly controlled. By invading the internal structure of fruits and seeds, the fungus compromises the overall quality and commercial value of the yields.
