As a member of the Talaromyces genus, this fungus can produce robust spores that facilitate its persistence in soil and organic debris, leading to recurring infections.

This pathogen targets a wide variety of crops, including cereals, oilseeds, and vegetables during storage. Infection often occurs through existing wounds on the plant surface or through the root system in contaminated soils.
