Description
Thysanophorosis is a fungal disease caused by the microscopic pathogen Thysanophora glaucoalbida. This species belongs to the group of deuteromycetes, primarily inhabiting the rhizosphere or plant debris, acting as an opportunistic pathogen capable of suppressing plant growth under stress conditions.
The primary crops at risk of infection include various woody species, particularly conifers, as well as certain technical crops grown in greenhouses. The fungus is capable of colonizing the root system and the root collar of the stem, gradually penetrating the plant's tissues.
Key symptoms include the appearance of a specific grayish-white mycelial growth on the surface of the substrate or the root collar. As the disease progresses, yellowing and premature shedding of needles or leaves are observed, alongside stunted growth due to the impairment of root transport functions.
The development of Thysanophora glaucoalbida is favored by high soil and air humidity, as well as poor aeration of the substrate. The fungus spreads actively via spores through water droplets, pruning tools, or infected nursery stock, especially in dense plantings or greenhouse environments.
Protective measures include the following actions:
- Regular disinfection of growing media and gardening equipment.
- Maintaining optimal irrigation regimes to prevent waterlogging.
- Removal and destruction of plant debris showing signs of infection.
- Application of broad-spectrum fungicides upon the first signs of disease.
- Ensuring adequate ventilation in greenhouses and nurseries.
