Its presence is marked by the development of a dense, azure-colored mycelial mat that colonizes the soil surface and the lower parts of plant stems, often indicating poor site drainage or soil imbalance.
This fungus typically impacts forestry seedlings, ornamental plants, and various vegetable crops grown in humid conditions. While not always a primary aggressor, its growth in the rhizosphere disrupts the symbiotic relationships between plant roots and beneficial microorganisms, leading to physiological stress and secondary infections that compromise overall crop health.
The primary clinical symptoms of infection include the appearance of a blue-grey fungal crust at the root collar, accompanied by stunted growth and a general yellowing (chlorosis) of the foliage.
