Within the agricultural sector, this organism is widely recognized for its industrial application in producing protein-rich animal feed, rather than as a parasite causing diseases on field crops or living plant tissues.

As a biological entity, it functions as a saprotrophic yeast that thrives on substrates containing pentose and hexose sugars. In an agricultural environment, its presence is most commonly associated with decomposing plant material, silos, or stored agricultural commodities where moisture levels are elevated, allowing it to compete with other microflora.

Symptoms of its growth on agricultural products appear as a creamy or whitish film or yeast colonies on the surface of organic substrates. While it does not damage crops in the field, its unchecked proliferation in storage facilities can lead to spoilage of fodder and feed mixtures, necessitating careful monitoring of the micro-biological quality of stored assets.
