Trechispora microspora is a basidiomycete fungus that is recognized in agronomy as a soil-borne pathogen. While many species in this genus typically exist as saprotrophs in forest ecosystems, Trechispora microspora can occasionally exhibit pathogenic characteristics, specifically targeting the root systems of various crops and ornamental plants.

The disease caused by this fungus is primarily classified as root rot. The pathogen infiltrates the plant tissue through the root hairs or existing micro-wounds in the root system.
