While it is primarily a surface-dwelling organism, its extensive growth can severely impede the vital physiological functions of its host plant.

Application of appropriate systemic insecticides is essential to stop the production of honeydew, followed by the use of fungicides to eliminate existing mycelium. Cultural practices such as pruning to improve air circulation and ensuring proper spacing between plants are critical for long-term prevention.
