The order Tritirachiales encompasses a group of fungal pathogens that pose a notable challenge in both professional agriculture and horticulture. These fungi, characterized by specific physiological properties, are capable of colonizing host plants, leading to a decline in physiological performance and yield potential.
The pathogen spreads through the production of conidia, which effectively disperse across fields and greenhouses. Upon landing on the surface of a susceptible plant, the fungi penetrate the epidermal layer or natural openings. Once inside, they proliferate by colonizing the intercellular spaces and secreting enzymes that degrade the structural integrity of the plant cells.
A wide variety of crops can be affected, ranging from greenhouse vegetables to ornamental plants. Common symptoms include chlorosis, leaf spotting, and in severe cases, plant wilting. The visible presence of fungal structures, such as mycelial mats or spores, often confirms the infection, especially on the underside of leaves or at the site of stem lesions.

In greenhouse environments, poor air circulation acts as a primary catalyst for disease outbreak. Cultural practices such as maintaining proper plant spacing, ensuring good ventilation, and removing diseased debris are the first line of defense.
