The Tubakiaceae family comprises a group of ascomycetous fungi that are recognized as significant pathogens for various woody plant species. These fungi are primary agents of necrotic diseases, including leaf spots, shoot blight, and dieback. Their life cycle and ability to colonize host tissues make them a notable subject in forest pathology and arboriculture, often causing localized epidemics in diverse ecosystems.

These pathogens predominantly infect broad-leaved tree species such as oaks, maples, and chestnuts. The fungi invade the host tissues by colonizing the leaf lamina or the cambium of young branches.
