Tubulicrinis regificus is a species of crust fungus within the family Tubulicrinaceae. In the field of forest pathology, it is recognized as a wood-decaying agent that primarily interacts with decaying coniferous matter. As a saprotrophic organism, it plays a vital role in the carbon cycle of forest ecosystems by breaking down complex woody structures.
The primary hosts for this fungus include various coniferous trees, specifically spruce and fir species. It often colonizes fallen timber, stumps, and the basal sections of stressed trees. While it is rarely the initial cause of tree mortality, it effectively utilizes weakened or dead wood as a primary nutritional source, facilitating the transition of wood into soil humus.
The visible signs of infestation include the development of effused, resupinate fruit bodies that appear as thin, whitish or yellowish-cream crusts on the bark or exposed wood.
