The host range is predominantly focused on species of dogtooth violet and related Liliaceae. The disease is of particular concern to botanical gardens and nurseries, where dense planting and high humidity can facilitate the rapid transmission of the pathogen, leading to significant losses of rare or sensitive ornamental bulbous plants.

Symptoms are visually distinct and often appear early in the growing season. Infected plants exhibit linear lesions or pustules along the leaves and stems. As these structures mature, they rupture, releasing dark, powdery spore masses. Affected foliage often turns chlorotic, becomes twisted, and the overall plant vigor declines, resulting in poor or non-existent flowering.
