The pathogen primarily affects apple trees, targeting leaves, blossoms, and fruits. Susceptibility can vary depending on the cultivar, but in favorable conditions for the fungus, even relatively resistant varieties can show signs of infection, leading to weakened tree vigor and lower yield potential.
Typical symptoms include the appearance of dark, velvety lesions on the undersides of leaves, which later may cover both surfaces. On fruits, the disease manifests as dark, corky scabs, often causing the fruit to become malformed or cracked, which significantly reduces its market value and shelf life.
