These pathogenic fungi primarily affect the vegetative parts of various plant species, disrupting normal plant physiology. As an opportunistic pathogen, it colonizes tissues, causing necrotic lesions that can compromise the health of the entire plant if left unmanaged.

The host range of Veronaea is quite broad, affecting various horticultural, ornamental, and agricultural crops. It is particularly problematic in environments with high humidity and limited airflow, such as greenhouses or high tunnels, where the fungal spores can proliferate rapidly and infect adjacent healthy plants.

As the infection progresses, these spots expand and may develop a necrotic center with a darker, chlorotic halo. In high humidity, fine fungal mycelium and conidiophores may become visible, indicating active sporulation of the pathogen.

High relative humidity and moderate temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C are optimal for spore germination and infection. The pathogen disperses mainly through wind-borne conidia and splashing water, making sanitation practices vital for limiting its spread within a field or greenhouse.

The economic impact of this disease is primarily related to the reduction of photosynthetic efficiency due to premature leaf loss. When severe, the disease can lead to significant reductions in plant vigor, yield loss, and poor post-harvest quality. Persistent infections may weaken plants, making them more susceptible to subsequent environmental stressors.
