The primary hosts for this pathogen include a wide range of fruit-bearing trees, such as citrus, as well as various ornamental shrubs. The presence of the fungus is intrinsically linked to the infestation of sap-sucking insects like aphids, scales, and whiteflies, which deposit honeydew on the leaves, serving as the essential nutrient source for the fungal growth.
Clinical signs of the infection appear as a dark, soot-like, velvet coating across the leaf surface.
