Xenoteratosphaeria jonkershoekensis is an ascomycete fungal pathogen known for causing leaf spot diseases on plants within the Proteaceae family, specifically the genus Protea. As a specialized phytopathogen, it targets the foliar tissues of its host, leading to reduced photosynthetic capacity and significant aesthetic damage, which is a major concern for the cut-flower industry.

The host range is primarily focused on various species of Protea grown for ornamental purposes. Infections can occur in both nursery settings and open-field cultivation. Because Protea plants are often grown in specific climates, the presence of this pathogen can lead to widespread damage if management practices are not rigorously followed, especially in greenhouses with high plant density.

The primary symptom of this infection is the appearance of necrotic lesions on leaves. Initially, these spots are small, but they eventually enlarge, becoming light to dark brown with distinct margins.
