Any association of this species with agricultural crop damage is factually incorrect and stems from a misunderstanding of forest-related soil biology.

Biologically, Xerocomellus pruinatus functions as a mycorrhizal fungus. It develops a symbiotic relationship with the root systems of various tree species, particularly oaks and beeches. This relationship is mutualistic: the fungus assists the plant in mineral and water uptake from the soil, effectively enhancing the overall vigor and growth of the host plant rather than causing any harm.

Morphological symptoms of its presence include the growth of fruiting bodies near tree trunks. The cap is distinctively velvety and dark brown, while the pores are yellow. Unlike parasitic fungi that invade living tissues, this mushroom feeds on organic matter and exchanges nutrients with tree roots, leaving the plant completely unaffected by pathogens.

The development of these fungi depends on the presence of favorable soil conditions, including high organic content and stable moisture levels during late summer and autumn. In terms of agricultural management, there is no need for protective measures or chemical treatment against the velvet bolete. It does not possess any phytopathological threat.
