The causal agent is a member of the Mycenaceae family. It predominantly affects softwood species, particularly spruce and pine trees. The type of infection is categorized as brown rot, which compromises the structural integrity of the timber by breaking down cellulose components within the wood cells, leading to substantial weakening of the host tree.
