Zasmidium musae is a pathogenic fungus known as the causative agent of banana leaf spot disease. This organism belongs to the class of ascomycetes and specifically targets the leaf tissue of various banana cultivars, significantly impacting the plant's health and photosynthetic capacity.

The primary hosts for this pathogen are different varieties of banana plants. The fungus typically invades the leaves through stomata or small wounds on the leaf surface. In commercial farming environments, if sanitary protocols are not strictly followed, the disease can spread rapidly throughout an entire plantation.

Symptoms of the infection include the appearance of small dark spots that gradually enlarge and often develop an irregular shape.
