Zoopagaceae is a family of fungi within the order Zoopagales, recognized primarily for their predatory and obligate parasitic lifestyle. Unlike typical plant pathogens, these fungi do not cause diseases in crops. Instead, they act as specialized predators that target microscopic animals such as nematodes, amoebae, and rotifers inhabiting the plant rhizosphere.

The biological nature of these fungi involves the formation of sophisticated trapping mechanisms, such as adhesive branches or specialized hyphae, to capture their prey. Once a victim is immobilized, the fungus penetrates the host's body to extract nutrients. This process is essentially a form of biological control occurring naturally within the soil ecosystem.

These organisms are found in virtually any agricultural soil with a healthy level of organic matter and microbial activity. They are most prevalent in the root zones of various crops, including cereals and vegetables, where the density of prey species is typically sufficient to support the fungal population.

They do not pose a threat to plant health and are not considered a plant disease.
