BRYANSK GOLDEN

The 'Bryansk Golden' apple variety is a late-winter, high-yield variety bred by crossing the common Antonovka and Golden Delicious. The trees are medium-sized with a spreading, medium-density crown of bright green color. Fruiting begins in the 4th-6th year after planting, with fruits forming on spurs, fruiting shoots, and tips of vegetative shoots. The bark of the trunk and main branches is gray and smooth; shoots are thin, slightly knobby, brownish-brown, and pubescent. Leaves are of medium size, oblong with a long-tapered tip and slightly notched apex. Fruits are large, weighing from 180 to 270 grams, with even distribution in the crown. Apples have an oblong, slightly ribbed shape with golden-yellow skin, under which numerous green subdermal dots are visible. The skin is smooth, thin, and glossy. The flesh is white, dense, finely grained, and very juicy, with a sweet-and-sour taste and a slight spicy aroma. Taste quality is rated highly—at about 4.8 points. The chemical composition of fruits includes 8.5% sugars, 0.36% titratable acids, and 14 mg/100 g of ascorbic acid. Apples hold well on stalks, are not prone to dropping, and have a long storage period, lasting until mid-May. The variety is distinguished by resistance to scab and fruit rot, which significantly eases care and improves crop quality. However, biennial bearing and some fruit uniformity issues may occur. Among diseases, rust, powdery mildew, and spot are noted, while among pests include spider mite, aphid, flower eater, apple greenleaf plant bug, and codling moth. Bryansk Golden is suitable for fresh consumption due to its balanced taste and high vitamin and micronutrient content.
