The Dr. Kunovsky apple is an autumn technical variety developed at the M.A. Lisavenko Siberian Horticulture Research Institute and the Barнауl Research Institute of Fruit Crops. The tree is medium-sized with a rounded canopy of medium density, distinguished by its resistance to scab and moderate winter hardiness. Fruit bearing begins in the fourth year after planting, allowing for a relatively quick harvest.
Dr. Kunovsky apples have an average weight of 38 to 46 grams, a flat-round shape with prominent but smooth ridges. Their coloration varies from greenish-yellow to deep purple. The flesh is creamy, firm, and juicy, with a medium acid-sweet taste, suitable for technical processing. The fruit ripens in late August to early September and can be stored for 30 to 60 days.
A distinguishing feature of the variety is its high content of pectin substances, making it valuable for processing. Additionally, the fruit is rich in vitamin C (19–25 mg%) and vitamin P (323 mg%), enhancing their nutritional value.
