GOLDEN SUMMER

Golden Summer is a summer or late-summer variety of apple, developed by crossing the common Antonovka with the white Rosemarin. The trees are weakly or medium-sized with a rounded crown of medium density. It has medium precocity, beginning to bear fruit 6-7 years after planting, with annual or slightly irregular bearing. The variety is well adapted to various climatic conditions, including the Central strip of Russia, the Volga region, and the North Caucasus region, where the fruit ripens in the second half of August.

The Golden Summer apple fruits have medium to above-average size, weighing from 115 to 180 grams, flat-round, slightly tapering to the apex, weakly ribbed. The skin is shiny, greenish-yellow at incomplete maturity, and golden-yellow at full maturity, possibly with a red blush. Subcutaneous dots are large, whitish, and noticeable. The flesh is creamy or yellowish, fine-grained, juicy, tender, and aromatic. The taste is dessert, sweet-sour, with a tasting score from 4 to 4.3 points. The fruits have good storability, allowing them to be stored for one to two months after harvest.

The Golden Summer variety is distinguished by complex resistance to scab and powdery mildew, as well as drought and frost resistance, making it a reliable choice for gardeners. Fruit set is ensured mainly by simple and compound corymbs. Apples have a closed calyx, a thick straight stalk, a wide basin with girdling, and a heart-shaped core with open seed chambers. Thanks to its qualities and adaptability, the variety is widely used in various regions of Russia and is valued for its stable yield and high fruit quality.
