LYGOL RED

The Lygol apple is a late-maturing variety of Polish selection, bred by crossing the Linda and Golden Delicious varieties. The tree is medium-sized, reaching heights from 2.8 to 4.5 meters, with a rounded and compact crown. The variety is characterized by early fruiting—already in the 2nd-3rd year after planting, which makes it attractive for commercial cultivation and fresh market trade. Lygol prefers sunny, open areas with fertile, light soils and moderate watering, but can also grow in partial shade. Lygol apples are large, weighing from 180 to 400 grams, with a round-conical shape and ribbing near the calyx. The fruit skin is dense, light green in color with an intense red blush. The flesh is light cream, juicy, aromatic, with an excellent sweet-sour taste, which improves even further upon storage. Apples are suitable for both fresh consumption and thermal processing. Harvest maturity occurs at the end of September—beginning of October, depending on climatic conditions. The Lygol variety has high frost resistance and resistance to diseases such as scab and powdery mildew, allowing it to be grown in northern regions. Flowering occurs in medium timing and lasts about 10 days, with pink-white flowers with a pleasant honey aroma. Since the variety is self-sterile, to increase yield it is recommended to plant pollinators nearby, such as Champion, Idared, Gloster, or Golden Delicious varieties. As the tree ages, harvest volumes increase, making Lygol a reliable and high-yielding choice for gardeners and farmers.
