ORLOVSKAYA ZARYA

The 'Orlovskaya Zarya' apple variety is the result of breeding work conducted at the All-Russian Research Institute for Fruit Plant Breeding through the crossing of 'McIntosh' and 'Michurin's Seedless' varieties. This winter variety was developed between 1957 and 1968 and is characterized by a medium-sized, fast-growing tree with an inverted pyramidal crown of medium density. The tree exhibits good winter hardiness and resistance to a range of diseases and pests, including rust, scab, powdery mildew, spots, as well as spider mites, aphids, apple blossom weevils, apple leafrollers, and codling moths. The fruits of 'Orlovskaya Zarya' are of medium size, weighing from 100 to 135 grams, and have a flat-round, flattened shape with broad ridges and a slightly sloping form. The fruit skin is thin and shiny, covered with a whitish waxy bloom. The main color of the apples is greenish-yellow, while the accessory color is bright maroon-red with blurred stripes and speckles covering most of the surface. The flesh is white with a cream tint, of medium density, tender, juicy, and aromatic. The fruit taste is acid-sweet, very good, making them attractive for fresh consumption. The harvest maturity of the fruits occurs in the first half of September, and the storage period for consumer use can extend until the end of January, allowing apples to be used during the winter. The yield of the variety reaches 18 tons per hectare, indicating its high productivity. Due to the combination of excellent taste qualities, commercial appearance, and resistance to unfavorable conditions, the 'Orlovskaya Zarya' variety is an in-demand choice for growing in orchards.
